When to see an orthodontist
Crooked, crowded, or protruding teeth, an over- or underbite, jaw pain, or difficulty chewing are all reasons to consult an orthodontist. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children get their first orthodontic check-up by age seven, but treatment can begin at any age.
What treatments do orthodontists offer?
- Traditional metal braces and ceramic braces
- Clear aligners (Invisalign, ClearCorrect, and similar systems)
- Lingual braces — placed behind the teeth
- Retainers — fixed and removable
- Palatal expanders for children
- Surgical orthodontics for severe cases
